UPS
UPS has partnered with Earthwatch since 2011 to help researchers investigate nature-based solutions to urban environmental problems. From 2011 through 2018, the UPS-Earthwatch Climate Ambassadors program aimed to build an appreciation and understanding of the value of urban forests and strengthen UPS’s environmental stewardship and corporate sustainability initiatives. UPS engaged employees and customers in hands-on research in Atlanta, Boston, Canada, the UK, and Poland, inspiring them to support climate awareness.
In 2019, UPS shifted its focus to Operation Healthy Air. In response to the growing need for sustainable cities, municipalities are investing in green infrastructures such as parks, trees, and bioswales. However, research is needed to understand how well these nature-based solutions are working. This program leverages the benefits of sensors to better understand where pollution hot spots occur and were urban greening efforts can provide a “cleaning” effect to reduce exposure to pollutants. UPS is supporting Operation Healthy Air in Boston, Massachusetts, and Delhi, India.
YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
Earthwatch depends on donations—above and beyond what we raise from volunteers who participate in our expeditions—to deliver our global conservation mission. In fact, volunteer contributions provide only half of the total resources Earthwatch needs to sustain over 20 global field research expeditions, a wide variety of educational programs, corporate sustainability trainings, and more each year.
