SF Zoo

San Francisco Zoo & Gardens

The San Francisco Zoo & Gardens houses over 250 species on 100 acres in San Francisco, California. The zoo participates in national conservation programs and works to ensure the survival of a variety of endangered species.

Since 1991 San Francisco Zoo employees have been gaining professional development through Earthwatch. Over 50 zoo employees have joined Earthwatch expeditions, with an average of 2 staff per year traveling the world to join an expedition. This program gives valued zoo staff the opportunity to travel the world and visit the ecosystems of the animals they work with every day. Criteria for selection include overall interest in the specific research program, past performance as a Zoo employee, and potential benefit to the individual and the institution.

YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

Earthwatch depends on donations—above and beyond what we raise from volunteers who participate in our expeditions—to deliver our global conservation mission. In fact, volunteer contributions provide only half of the total resources Earthwatch needs to sustain over 20 global field research expeditions, a wide variety of educational programs, corporate sustainability trainings, and more each year.
