Cabot Family Charitable Trust
The Cabot Family Charitable Trust is a Boston-based nonprofit that focuses on the areas of arts and culture, education and youth development, environment and conservation, health and human services, and for civic and public benefit. They have a special interest in serving youth and young adults.
In 2020, The Cabot Family Charitable Trust is helping close the gender gap in STEM through Earthwatch’s Girls in Science program. They are supporting five high school-aged girls from underserved Boston public and charter schools to travel to California to help scientists understand how human activities have altered meadows and how these changes will impact meadows’ ability to respond to a changing climate on the Earthwatch expedition Restoring Meadows in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. During this eight-day research expedition, the young women live the life of a field biologist as they study this important ecosystem and work to restore these meadows in an effort to protect the water system. In addition, Earthwatch learning facilitators guide the young women through skill-building exercises that improve their confidence and teach them to share their stories of science. This program is designed to empower young women to pursue their STEM interests through mentorship, hands-on research, and confidence-building.
YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
Earthwatch depends on donations—above and beyond what we raise from volunteers who participate in our expeditions—to deliver our global conservation mission. In fact, volunteer contributions provide only half of the total resources Earthwatch needs to sustain over 20 global field research expeditions, a wide variety of educational programs, corporate sustainability trainings, and more each year.
